So everything for the 2012 election seemed fairly straight forward and
predictable. Then Romney fires his gay, former Bush advisor and the
President comes out for gay rights. Personally, I think he 'stepped in
it' but we'll see.
North Carolina amended their constitution and it almost sounds like
they've blown this dog whistle for the last time. But now I suspect a
bunch of states will find some 'flaw' in their previous anti-Gay laws
and put them on the ballots again in November or one of the
alternatives:
The first is date limited, anti-gay, ballot issues. Each comes with a
two or four year limit so it has to be renewed at the next election.
The second is to put up a 'pro-gay' issue in future elections.
It doesn't matter which 'dog whistle' is blown as long as 'gay' shows
up on the ballot.
