There has been quite a bit of discussion on this newsgroup lately
about remembering historic things, and some of the old mall stores
have been mentioned. Here are "snapshots" of the malls shortly
after they first opened (except Madison Square, which is too new).

If your news reader takes out line breaks (which it shouldn't), this
will look rather messy:

That's one heckuva list, Evans! It's awesome to know that someone actually
remembers the good ol' days of a mall better than Parkway City, yet not
Madison Square.

Too new? I guess that depends on how old you are. I remember coming
from Decatur with my grandparents to see the "new mall in Huntsville."
You'd hardly recognize the food court now with all the remodeling
they've done.

Okay, as someone who didn't live here then, I'm curious. Where were
the twin theatres? (What is/was most recently there now?)

Well, I remember it being built. My brother was a clerk for one of the
contruction companies. A real big deal at the time.

I believe ther is/was a bank ther. On the end by the Cookie Companby. I
*think* I saw Peter Pan (animated) when I was *very* young there.

Well it was just the Madison at first, and it was Fantastic ! then they
split it two, but it was still great, big high back rocking seats, the
last show there was 2010. then it closed and became a ladies dept. store
from Birmingham, then Castner Knotts, and now Dillards - I think. when I
was in the 6th grade, my entire class went to see Black Beauty there -
what a hoot ! But does anyone remember the Lyric downtown ? I think that
was the name of it....

I too saw Peter Pan there as a young child, The last movie I saw
there was TRON, they had the video game outside in the mall. I dont
remember very well but I think they used to show XXX movies there late
at night, I just remeber seeing the ads in the newspaper, it could
have been a different theater. What was the name of the arcade down
near Tobacco Road? Between the Theater, arcade and Karmelcorn Parkway
City was a pretty fun place to hang out, (if you couldn't drive.)

It would surprise me if any adult movies were shown at the Madison
Twin. IIRC it was owned by someone in the Parker/Walker/Crute/Fleming
family, a family which was/is active in Whitesburg Baptist Church.
You're probably thinking of the Trans-Lux Twin, which was located
where Barnhills(?) Buffet is now, in the old Hills shopping center.
