Hi all FTN'ers,

Our teach-in day on January 30th is shaping up and so is the Town Hall Meeting.

The Arcata City Council will be hosting the Town Hall meeting from the City Council chambers.  People can come to City Hall but it will also be broadcast on access Channel 12 and people will be able to call in and we can arrange places throughout the community where people can gather to watch it.

We will have local government officials sharing the stage with several students all talking about their global warming solution priorites.  (We are looking for students to be panelists - contact us!)

Hopefully Mike Thompson and maybe the Senators will be there for some part of it via video conferencing.

This will be a great chance to voice our opinions to our leaders!

Thanks,  the HSU Focus the Nation Team

12/3/07 Focus Update

Help us engage hundreds of members of congress with tens of thousands of young people in Green Democracy, a national conversation with the power to change the world.

If your U.S. Senators or Congresspeople can’t be there in person, that is no excuse. Focus the Nation is partnering with SightSpeed and working with Congress to set up video dialogues. Your elected rep can open up a lap-top in Washington D.C., and have a carbon-free, round-table discussion with your packed campus auditorium.

We are still sixty days out, and Focus the Nation is rocking across America. Highlights:

CalPoly San Luis Obispo: Over 125 faculty involved with a  goal of 500. Keynote from U.S. Representative Lois Capps.

Clemson University: Hosting the national kick-off event for Focus the Nation on January 25th, including a webcast of the keynote from Eban Goodstein. Amazing web site.

Central Connecticut State University: OVER 500 invites to ALL presidential candidates, all NE federal representatives, all CT state representatives, and business and civic leaders. Coordinating a caravan of buses to the capital to hold a rally on the afternoon of Jan 31st.

The University of Washington: All new undergrads reading Elizabeth Kolbert's book Field Notes From a Catastrophe. On January 31st, visit the "climate action cafe", and join the town hall meeting including Mayor Greg Nickels.

The University of Central Florida: Focusing their entire first year curriculum on climate change, have more than a hundred faculty involved in planning and executing their event and are hosting The 2% Solution webcast on January 30th.

Willamette University: Full day of events—and a music video contest! Submit your video to accompany a global warming song written by a senior Willamette Administrator,
