Dear FTN'ers,

 - Focus is fast approaching - bookmark our new website and keep checking for developments: www.humboldt.edu/~ftn1

- See message from National FTN group, below.

- Also, think about this:

If you can't make it to the event on campus, consider arranging a viewing of the 2% solution webcast at your kids school, at your home, community center, or place of worship.  It will be aired on the Earthday Network and will also be available any time after the live airing at 5 pm, on Wednesday, January 30th.  http://focusthenation.org/2percentsolution.php

You could also arrange to have a community viewing of the Town Hall Meeting which will be aired on Ch. 10 on Thursday, starting at 7 pm http://www.humboldt.edu/~ftn1/?q=node/7.  Show the webcast first and make it a night of civic engagement about the most important challenge facing humanity today!

Happy holidays and best wishes for a wonderful new year in the new energy future,

The HSU Focus the Nation Team

Subject: Focus the Nation: Humanity needs your leadership / Learn more on Weds Call

Dear Friends,

Scientists announced last week that within five years, the Arctic might be ice-free – a strange new open ocean where bears and other beautiful creatures will no longer live. These are the effects of just over 1 degree F of warming, and we are facing three to ten times more than that within the lifetimes of today’s students.

In this time of desperate crisis, the world needs your leadership. Over the next few weeks, you can build the grassroots movement for sane policies that can stop the heating of this earth. We have the solutions to hold global warming to the low end, and create a safe and prosperous future.

Help us Focus the WHOLE Nation. Please reach out to everyone you know—at high schools and grade schools, churches, synagogues, mosques, rotary clubs, local businesses, book clubs, Sierra Club chapters, museums, bike clubs, environmental centers--  and get them to commit to holding an educational event on January 31st.  Do not take no for an answer. Time is too short.

Which side are you on?  The side of our children and their future? Or the side of those who say we can’t stop this challenge to human civilization-- because it will cost too much? It is time to decide.

Thank you to the tens of thousands of volunteers across the country who are building Focus the Nation events. And thank you to the many groups helping make Focus the temporary center of the national movement to stop global warming: the Student PIRG’s; the Sierra Student Coalition; our partners at the National Wildlife Federation and the Earth Day Network; all the young leaders who headed back to their campuses after Powershift; the folks at LiveEarth, Interfaith Power and Light, at Hillel, the College President’s Climate Commitment, at Stop Global Warming, at 1-Sky, and at Clif Bar, Stonyfield Farm, Nike, Re:Vision, SightSpeed, and the rest of our business partners and sponsors.

This is the start of the kind of movement that, again and again, has changed . Your leadership now is critical.

On a recent call, one of our organizers asked, “What else do you need from Focus the Nation?” He received this reply: “Give us hope”.

Your leadership gives us hope. Help Focus the Nation bring us all together, and change the future.

Join us Wednesday, 12/17—12 noon, eastern for our organizing call. Call in to 1-218-339-7800, passcode 1312008. Thanks for the work you are doing.
