President Rollin Richmond
President's Office
1 Harpst Street
Humboldt State University
Arcata, CA 95521

Dear President Richmond,

On and around January 31, 2008 millions of people on over 1000 campuses
across the country will gather to discuss global warming solutions for
America, in a national effort called Focus the Nation (FTN).

Humboldt State University currently has an FTN student club (HSU Focus the
Nation), and an FTN steering committee composed of students, faculty, and
alumni. This team has proposed that all day, on Wednesday, January 30,
2008, campus and community members will present information and lead
discussions about local, state, regional, national, and global climate
problems and solutions. Topics will be drawn from all disciplines: arts and
humanities and the social, environmental, and hard sciences.

A key component of the FTN effort is the President’s Resolution. A copy is
attached and we would like to meet with you about passing it this semester

The HSU Focus the Nation Team would also like to invite you to a Focus the
Nation workshop being presented at the Leadership Conference on Saturday,
October 6th. This will be an opportunity for conference attendees as well
as the HSU campus community to learn about the HSU Focus the Nation effort.

The Leadership Conference this year commemorates the 20th anniversary of the
Graduation Pledge of Environmental and Social Responsibility, an effort
founded by Humboldt State University students. The Graduation Pledge is
just one example of HSU’s leadership in the area of community and
environmental stewardship. Focus the Nation is an opportunity to continue
that tradition of as we face the greatest challenge to humanity and our
planet.
Sincerely yours,

Officers HSU Focus the Nation Club
