to HSU Focuses The Nation
Meeting 9/6/07
William Jacks, Kristen, Sarah, Gregg, Jennifer B., Jeanine, Jerel
(visiting)

Join The Global Challenge to change our climate future.

Rally Update - Monday September 10th, 12 - 1 on the HSU Quad. Please
join us! Sara Dykman from Green Wheels will speak. HSU Circus will
perform. Music - a couple of songs. Gregg will speak and introduce
FTN.
Others can speak. We will have a table with brochures and sign up
sheets. This is our first major effort to recruit more volunteers. We
need volunteers to make this event a success!

Max & friends will host a free delicious dinner that evening with
veggies from Potowat Indian Village. at Intercept (Indian Natural
Resources Planning & Interpretation Center) on 14th located next to
Children's Center. 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to celebrate and
brainstorm about Focus the Nation

CCAT Potluck tomorrow night (Fri., 9/7). After music & food Max will
announce FTN and the rally, and work to get people interested in
participating.

Discussion about how to present and phrase this effort. The words
"Global Warming" tend to produce a lukewarm reaction. In Gregg's
words: what Focus the Nation is really about is to change the entire
culture of this country. Similar to women's suffrage movement.
Behaviors that seemed totally normal will no longer be accepted.
People would no sooner drive an SUV than they would walk down the
street naked.

Publicity: Kristin would like to do a weekly radio show with different
speakers. Will talk to friend Emily who has a show.

Kristin will start the research on how to rent rooms so we can
determine which day to hold event (or possibly both). She will book
KBR for one of the evenings (either 30th or 31st) She will begin this
project after the rally and hopes to pass it on to a new volunteer.

Suggestion: volunteers can make announcements in their classes and
other classes. Frame the announcement around the idea of solutions to
a global challenge rather the dreaded "GW" words.

William volunteered to head up effort get support from President
Rollin Richmond. Richmond needs positive publicity and this could be a
good student connection.
Point: get him to sign the Resolution endorsing HSU's participation in
the nationwide FTN effort. His buy-in will help make this event a
success.
Timing? Gregg says Richmond really likes numbers. We need to get more
students involved before we approach him. Wait till after Rally, and
perhaps get AS to sign on. Max/William will find out when next AS
meeting and present.

Petition at Rally, get as many students as possible to sign. We will
have this for meeting with Pres. Richmond
"We support the effort to change our climate future through Focus The
Nation."

Clubs can now table at football games, another great way to recruit
new energy. Need volunteers to do the actual tabling. can also table
at the Quad whenever we want

Next meeting - Thursday, Sept. 13th, 7 p.m. at NHE 119. If well
attended, recruit people to fill organizing tasks and jobs
fundraising, etc.
