1. do you/the director have a bridge you’re using as a mental model? Are you thinking “Golden Gate” or some rope thingie in the middle of a jungle a’la Indiana Jones?
2. length/width/height and does it need to be seen from the end, perpendicular, or @ an angle? Is it in the middle of the stage or creeping on from one side?
3. by “travel” – do you mean traveling on/off-stage or between venues? If between venues, how small does it have to break down for transport? If on/off-stage, how much room is in the wings for it and does it have to come apart to get back there?

Just a thought . . . how about building a base unit to walk on but flying the “suspension” poles and cables? That’d give the illusion of movement, especially if you could attach the flown items to the base unit with bungees or something.
