Survey time: new site design coming.

Hello all,
I'm working on updating the server software of the www.hstech.org site
and I want to know if it's time to lighten things up? I've figured
black as it's the crew color, etc...
Thoughts? I'm looking to attract more visitors, etc.
What functions, services, information... would you like to see on the
site? Is anyone interested in lending a hand?
For those who know web-speak, the site is run on a CMS (content
management system) called Joomla. It allows for easy updates, sharing,
user groups, and more.

I realize the why of the black (I, myself have a hefty wardrobe of
black tees), but I find the white small type on black a bit hard to
read. (my 2 cents)

I'll think on the other things....
