- Guru Granth Sahib has total 14 pages referred to as “Ang”.
- The pages are written with a landscape orientation.
- There are 2900 lines of text per page. However, many pages with headlines (starting with new raag) have less than 19 lines per page.
- Total number of lines are 26,852.
- Total number of words are 398,697.
- Total dictionary words are 29,445 (these are the words that have been used again and again to make the whole text). Many of these words have been used only once.
- The word that has been repeated most often is ਹਰਿ. It has occurs 3 times.
- Most of the compositions of Guru Granth Sahib are recorded in the ragas which total 76 in number.
- The ragas are Sri, Majh, Gaurhi, Asa, Gujri, Dev Gandhari, Bihagra, Wadhans, Sorath, Dhanasri, Jaitsri, Todi, Bairari, Tilang, Suhi, Bilawal, Gaund, Ramkali, Nat Naraian, Mali Gaurha, Maru, Tukhari, Kedar, Bhairo, Basant, Sarang, Malhar, Kanra, Kalyan, Parbhati and Jaijawanti.
- Compositions under each raga is arranged as follows, first are the Shabads followed by Ashtpadis which are followed by Channts and finally compositions of bhagats.
- Guru Nanak Dev Ji composed 2239 Shabads, 153 Ashtpadis and 89 Chhants.
- Guru Angad Dev Ji did not compose any Shabads. Guru Angad Dev Ji composed Sloks.
- Guru Amar Das Ji composed 172 Shabads, 79 Ashtpadis and 19 Chhants.
- Guru Arjan Dev Ji composed 1322 Shabads 45 Ashtpadis and 63 Chhants.
- Guru Arjan Dev Ji have 3 Shabads in the Bhagats’ Bani section.
- Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji did not compose any Ashtpadi.
- Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji composed 59 Shabads.
- 22 Vars can be found in Guru Granth Sahib 21 have been composed by Gurus while one has been composed by bards Satta and Balwand in Rag Ramkali.
- Among Bhagats the most compostions are by Kabir. His 224 Shabds are included in Guru Granth Sahib.
- Bhagat Kabir has 3 more compositions which have been recorded in Sri Guru Granth Sahib; Bavan Akhri, Pandrah Thithee and Satt Var.
- Bhagat Namdev has 61 Shabads, Ravidas 40, Tarlochan and Farid 4 each, Bhagats Beni and Dhanna 3 each.
- Bhagats Jaidev and Bhikan have 2 shabads each while Bhagats Parmanand, Sain, Pipa, Sadhna, Ramanad and Soordas have one Shabad each.

There are a total of 60 raags or melodies within the Guru Granth Sahib.
Each melody sets a particular mood for the hymn, adding a deeper dimension to it.
The Guru Granth Sahib is incorrectly thought by many to have just 31 raags or melodies.
Out of the 60 raags or melodies, 39 are single raags and 21 are mishrat raags which are mixed melodies created by blending together two raags or melodies to create an entirely new and independent raag or melody. The primary raag or melody contains the main foundation, identity and characteristic which is then influenced by the secondary raag or melody.
