Dear Nichole Williams,
This is per Alderman Tony Zielinski. We wanted to pass on to help keep us all safe.
The Milwaukee Police have noticed an ongoing residential burglary problem, in the past 21 days there has been 12 burglaries in the area bounded by:
E. Dakota to E. Bay and S. Logan to S. Greeley
The majority of the burglaries appear to be occurring in the morning hours from 5:00 am to approximately noon. Typically doors have been forced open or unlocked windows are utilized for entry.
Money, jewelry, some electronics are what's being taken.
An increase in the illegal usage of pain narcotics and Heroin appears to be the driving force behind these burglaries.
Milwaukee Police have arrested numerous burglars this year in the Bay View area and some of these people are in jail and some are out on bond.
Currently we have several suspects in mind for some of these burglaries.
Neighbors know their neighborhoods best! If you see somebody prowling near a neighbor's residence (In their yard or by their garage) and it does not appear that the person has legitimate business call 911.
Tell the operator that CAPTAIN YOUNG said I should call 911. Burglaries are an emergency in Bay View!
Do not place yourself in danger but if possible, from a secluded position, continue to observe the suspicious person, obtain a clothing and physical description of the suspect, as well as any motor vehicles or bicycles and inform the telecommunicator. If after you hang up with the telecommunicator and you see the suspicious person attempt to enter the residence or garage or actually gain entry call 911 again and tell them what you see.
Also if after you call and a legitimate reason for that person to be by the residence is learned please call 933-4444 and advise the telecommunicator.
When in doubt.............CALL!
The majority of our burglary arrests occur when neighbors call.
