Working in the dining hall, I have seen many students drop silverware and cups accidentally; some leave these items on the ground while others pick them up and leave them on the counter. No one wants to carry dirty silverware or cups on their tray, but there should be a convenient place they can put these items. Maybe a piece of blackware can be put near places where students pick up their silverware? Sometimes we student workers don't have a chance to immediately clear up the floor and having a convenient place where students can put silverware would be useful. Of course, this is really only a problem in larger dining halls where the trash area is further away from tray and silverware pick-up.

Hi, can you tell me where you work? And just to clarify...are you talking about students who have dropped clean silverware - and then do not want to put it on their tray or take it to the tray return?

Thanks -- Chris Siegel

Hello Chris. I used to work at Bursley and the students did not put the clean silverware they dropped on their tray or take it to the tray return. This is probably just an issue with larger dining halls.

Got it. Let me ask the managers how big of a problem it is. Maybe we need to put some kind of a drop box near the silverware. It would have to have a slot and a lid so that students wouldn't mistake it for clean silverware. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
