Dear HSF members,
I'm Giacomo from CERN's Open Source Program Office and we are currently
organising an event at CERN to bring together people from various HEP
institutes to discuss the current plans and challenges regarding the use
and production of Open Source Software in HEP.
We would like to hear your views on issues around open-source software
and open-source hardware for HEP such as licensing costs, lock-ins, and
contributions to OS ecosystems. Do you have best practices or even
published recommendations, especially if they differ from the CERN
approach (available at
https://ospo.docs.cern.ch/). If you have an OSPO
(Open Source Program Office) set up in your institution, we would love
to hear how it’s going.
The event will take place on the 13th of November 2026 in in the morning
at CERN with possible remote participation. Please let me know whether
you would like to participate in person or remotely or feel free to
forward this message to someone else within your institution who might
be a better fit to talk about the above-mentioned issues.
We are very much looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Giacomo Tenaglia
