Dear Manzoor,

There is no legal requirement for this as far as I know. Even in OSHA, there is no requirement of issuing Hot Work Permit for radiography. Work Permit system is a safe work control system and it can be tailored to an organization's need. I have worked in places where only a radiography permit is required for Radiography and not hot work permit which is only required for hot works.

But mostly in ADNOC the practice is that they issue only two kinds of permit i.e. a hot work permit and a cold work permit and then for all the other works like confined space and radiography they issue a certificate or supplementary permit which is to be attached with the main permit. Now since radiography is a high risk activity so they connect it with the hot work permit, so ensure that all necessary precautions are in place. Even when there is no "hot work" required inside a confined space, they usually require you to take a hot work permit for all confined space entries coupled with a entry certificate or permit.

About the legal side, no law requires you to have a permit system, though they recommend that you have one, but if you can prove to the regulatory authority that you have other means in place to control risks, you can live without a work permit system.

Regards,
Naqi

Dear Manzoor,
Radiography activity is an exothermic activity, so eventually  heat source is there,  which produce Temperatures rise,Pressures rise/drop ,and vacuum in piping system due to which any operation in a plant may face all  or one of these  variations, which may cause explosions, fires, stoppage of system  and further accidents, which we  are facing in Fertil urea  plant in MP section which is opp to Urea plant, CCR complaints about the malfunctioning of their controls in above stated areas which is visible on their panels in ccr,and RT has been stopped until this issue is resolved.other aspects explained by Naqi Sb in detail.

Dear

First of all remember the basic defination of hot work and hot work permit

Defintion: any activity in which heat and sparks are involve

Secondly Consider the fire Chemistry Triangle

Ingredients of Fire cycle

1 Heat
2 Oxygen
3 Fuel

Thirdly Consider The Spread of fire

Three things are involved in spread of fire
 Conduction
 Convection
 Radiation

I think This is a valid answer for the Question may most of us are agree those who are not agree plz reply

Dear its good,

but if u say that due to Radiation, then every work in sunlight will also a HOT Work as sunlight is RADIATION. And also all other light sourses are radiation.

And radiation of radiography havn't any release of heat, if a minimum produce then it diapear in small distance.

I think there may be another reason for issuing hot work permit for radiography.

The frequency and conversely the energy of the radiations from isotope is much larger that the sunlight and other back ground radiations.
