Greetings from Swadhaa !
"Touching clay.
Moulding it.
Making your own Ganesha.
Creating your own masterpiece.
A simple and fulfilling act.
But one that Mother Earth will be thankful for.
Avoid pollution by not immersing Ganesha idols in the river."
It is GaneshotsavaTime! And the tradition continues with “ Make your Own Ganesha” workshop being organised at Swadhaa Waldorf Learning Centr.e
Environmentalists have been crying hoarse about the irreversible damage that is being unleashed on our water systems due to the immersion of plaster-of-paris (PoP) idols and the toxic colours used on the idols. There has been a marked increase in awareness about the various forms of pollution. Some well-meaning NGOs now provide idols made from natural clay or other non-polluting materials. Such idols are priced at a premium making them out of reach for the common man, who still has no recourse but use the PoP idols.
To address this issue Bluewiss (www.bluewiss.com)every year organizes a workshop called ”Make Your Own Ganesha” to increase awareness of the traditional practice of making our ownGanesha.Traditionally, people collected silt from the riverbanks, processed it to extract clay, and then made their own Ganesh idols by hand. They have been conducting their workshop at Swadhaa every year.
In the workshop participants can learn to make Ganesha from natural clay. The charge is Rs.450/-in which you will get a clay brick to work with (which is reusable each year!) and a pedestal to mount the Ganesha on.
