Dear Friends,

We at Swadhaa are immensely happy to have Miriam Haenen visit us again.

She is here to work intensely with the kindergarten teachers of the school,

and also to extend her inspiring presence to the larger community through a few talks and workshops.

About Miriam Haenen:

“ The knowledge of child development when aided by the teacher's own inner journey

can make education into an art – a transforming tool towards holistic human beings

and a harmonious world. In that sense education is work in forming the future humanity.”

– Miriam Haenen

Born in Netherlands, she is working and partly living in India since 1997. She is a pioneer and mentor in Waldorf education with a deep search to root it in Indian culture. Her International work in value based education as a path towards peace earned her a place in the Oxford Round Table for Education. She is involved in Global holistic curriculum development and has decades of experience in connecting children with nature. She is currently pursuing her research on the effect of Charkha Spinning on Body, Soul and Spirit in Ahmedabad. She is an Artist in Sacred Puppetry and the Founder of Hiranya Kriya meditation/yoga.

The schedule of her talks and workshops is as follows:

Workshop for all educators and parents -

The golden value of small steps on the path of true value based education

20th April 2019, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Rs.2200 (Includes lunch)

Teachers change the world … one child at a time”

Teachers are the tools that shape the future of our society and so they naturally become an essential factor when we think of bringing about a change in the existing systems.

Lao Tzu once said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step …

That is still true, and not only for every big journey, ''1000 miles'', but for all small changes one wants to make!

A day of exploration for teachers, educators and parents into the Art-of-Change: in oneself, the class attitude, the math learning, less stress for children, more joy, etc. and paving a path towards creating a value-based education and community

Come be the change!

A Parent-Child Workshop (Child 4yrs +)

Granthika - Sacred Puppetry :

The Art of the Knot and of the knotted doll

21st April 2019, Sunday 9:30am - 12:30pm, Rs.1500 (Introductory Batch)

21st April 2019, Sunday 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Rs.1500

(Advance Batch)

This art has developed itself from a drawing in the craft book of the first Waldorf craft teachers and a line from Steiner where he talks about making a doll from a handkerchief and its inner effect on the child. It is the magic of making a doll or an animal from one piece of cloth and a path of coming to the realization that everything is possible. That I can make what I want, what I need.

Sacred Puppetry, because at its base is The Knot, the archetypal image of connection, with a secret hidden inside. As the years passed, it grew in its educational, artistic and healing aspects. This workshop will be an introduction into this art. The art of being and becoming, where handkerchiefs, cloth, dupatta etc come alive. In real sense, these are the ultimate Waldorf dolls and its effect on children and adults is profound.

In the first encounter with the art of Granthika-the knotted dolls , a whole world of magic opens up. There is no end to the magic and possibilities.

In the advanced session  the elemental steps will be followed by new steps :
different forms, material, sizes......

Experience gestures with bigger dolls/figures and working towards a small theater play at the end.

The different age groups, parents and children will bring a special, joyful creative value.

The Art, Science and Healing aspects of the GANDHI'S Charkha

21st April, Sunday, 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Rs.500

The Charkha and its spinning had a very central place in the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi. The Charkha carries in itself the symbolism of society and individual - the wheel and the spindle, intimately connected and always moving and influencing each other.

Where its first emphasis was on social reform and dignity in livelihood, one can envision, it can also have a strong effect on the inner reform and dignity of the human being itself. This workshop aims to introduce the art of spinning on the Charkha as it leads to inner development, education and healing possibilities.
