Hello,

I've organised a workshop later this month called "Appreciating Hindustani Classical Music".

The idea is that if we enjoy this genre of music as a lay-person, it might increase our enjoyment if we understood it as well. I use the word 'understand' to mean any of the following:
- which raag is being sung? What are the key notes in this raag?
- what is the performer trying to do? what improvisations is she doing?
- what is the structure of an entire composition
- what distinguishes a classical piece from a semi-classical one?

These are a few of the questions that our instructor will address. (The syllabus isn't yet set in stone... inputs from participants will influence what gets covered, and to what depth).

Our instructor is Uday Ramdas, a composer and tabla player. He is a disciple of late Ustad Allah Rakha and Pt Yogesh Samsi.

I'm attaching the program poster. Please reach me for further info. If you wish to register, pl use this google form link: https://goo.gl/forms/weXGVj9kDZYfxoxQ2

Other essential details:

Two consecutive weekend evenings (June 24-25 and July 1-2)

Swadha Waldorf School, Opp Dutta Mandir, Pashan-Sus Road.
Floor seating + Chairs

Rs. 6000 for adults, There's no fee for children ( min age 8 recommended)

Learning Atmosphere
We're expecting a smallish group of people (say 10), so it will be an intimate setting (baithak style) and so there will be plenty of opportunity for close interaction / Q&A with Uday, the instructor.

If you wish to know Uday's style better, it may help to preview this old recording of his lec-dem at Univ of Alberta. ( Video isn't great, but audio is clear).

Hoping to see some of you this weekend.

Warmly,
Shirish
