Dear Friends,
After the Walkathon its time for A Talkathon -
a series of wonderful talks and workshops by Miriam Haenen
from 18th Feb to 24th Feb 2019
The Waldorf movement in India owes its
existence to some of the oldest mentors who pioneered this
movement decades ago. Miriam Haenen from Netherlands is one of the oldest such pioneers who
dedicated many years to this work in our country.
Miriam is an educator and child development specialist with over 35 years of rich experience with
children and teachers across India, Europe and the Middle East. Her International work in value
based education as a path towards peace, has earned her a place in the Oxford Round Table for
Education.
She is currently pursuing her research
on the effect of Charkha Spinning on Body, Soul and Spirit in Ahmedabad.
She is an Artist in Sacred Puppetry and the Founder of Hiranya Kriya meditation/yoga.
Miriam would be in India at Swadhaa
working with the teachers of the school and we requested her
for small workshops so that the larger
community may have the opportunity to experience her
profound wisdom and inspiring presence.
Her work is renewing, refreshing and transforming.
Schedule :
18th February 2019,
Monday, 4:30pm - 6:00pm, Rs.500
Waldorf education in the Land of Gandhi, Tagore, Vivekananda and many more…
Incredible India - with countless gifts
and numerous challenges, with the oldest culture, the echo of the highest
spirituality, a history of massive colonization and at the same time huge
polarities in all aspects of life. All this has built up the multi-layeredness
of contemporary times!
This interactive talk will be a
pilgrimage into our dreams and wishes for this beautiful country living in us,
and the search of what Waldorf education can offer on the path, to make these
dreams come true. The wholeness in a Waldorf-approach of head, heart and hands,
of body, soul and spirit, are not new to India. What is new, is how it can
teach us the art to bring this depth, with joy, in every aspect of life, work and
the education of our children.
19th February 2019,
Tuesday, 4:30pm - 6:00pm, Rs.500
The Art, Science and
Healing aspects of the GANDHI'S Charkha
The Charkha and its spinning had a very
central place in the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi. The Charkha carries in
itself the symbolism of society and individual - the wheel and the spindle,
intimately connected and always moving and influencing each other.
Where its first emphasis was on social
reform and dignity in livelihood, one can envision, it can also have a strong
effect on the inner reform and dignity of the human being itself. This workshop
aims to introduce the art of spinning on the Charkha as it leads to inner
development, education and healing possibilities.
20th February 2019, Wednesday, 4:30pm - 6:00pm, Rs.500
Raising and educating children in contemporary times
Raising and educating children in contemporary times has its own challenges. We have no idea how the world will be when they’ve grown up. We mostly don't have a village setting with its own peace, nature and different lifestyle. And the way we are raised and educated ourselves is an inner heritage which we often don't realize.
This interactive talk aims at addressing the following questions -
How can Waldorf inspired education help us in these realms?
How can I get more connected with how I really want to be as a parent? How can
I learn to really connect with the being of the child and answer her needs in a
way which is joyful and strengthening, for the child and myself as a parent?
21st February 2019,
Thursday 9:00am - 12:00pm, Rs.1250
Granthika - Sacred
Puppetry : The Art of the Knot and of the knotted doll
This art has developed itself from a
drawing in the craft book of the first Waldorf craft teachers and a line from
Steiner where he talks about making a doll from a handkerchief and its inner
effect on the child. It is the magic of making a doll or an animal from one
piece of cloth and a path of coming to the realization that everything is possible.
That I can make what I want, what I need.
Sacred Puppetry, because at its base is
The Knot, the archetypal image of connection, with a secret hidden inside. As
the years passed, it grew in its educational, artistic and healing aspects.
This workshop will be an introduction into this art. The art of being and
becoming, where handkerchiefs, cloth, dupatta etc come alive. In real sense,
these are the ultimate Waldorf dolls and its effect on children and adults is
profound.
22nd February 2019, Friday, 4:30pm - 6:00pm, Rs.500
Drawing and moving pictures as an educational soul art
Art, in many of us, is a neglected part in our childhood and upbringing. It is not uncommon that even the thought of 'having to make' a drawing, painting, etc., makes us uncomfortable. In this workshop, we are going to first explore how drawing can be brought to children - that it is part of the soul aspect of gaining self confidence and the other aspect of what children's drawings can tell us, when children feel the freedom to draw from their soul. In the second part, we will make a moving picture of paper, which has the possibility to be moved by the child. These pictures have a great significance, and are deeply related to the line "be the change”!
23rd and 24th of February, Saturday-Sunday, 9:00am - 4:00pm
The Art, Science and Spiritual Aspects of daily life in a Waldorf Kindergarten
A two-day intensive workshop for early childhood educators, Rs.5000 for 2 days (Inclusive of Food)
In the light of the Gifts and Challenges of the world today.
In the Light of the Gifts and Challenges of India today.
“ BE the CHANGE…”
Picturing what we really want to change in the present and future of our children, our country and our world, and the start of a journey to learn how to materialize impulses towards these changes, in and through the different aspects and possibilities of the Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy.
Head, Heart and Hands
Through the two days, participants will experience a deep understanding of the spiritual aspect of working with children through the pedagogy, an experience of the artistic elements such as singing, gesture plays and puppetry, insights into child development in the light of Anthroposophy and a deep inspiration and impulse to materialize these thoughts into their work with the children in their fold.
Miriam Haenen
“ The knowledge of child development when aided by the teacher's own inner journey
can make education into an art – a transforming tool towards holistic human beings
and a harmonious world. In that sense education is work in forming the future humanity.”
