BOLD
UNITY CALLS US TO INTEGRATE>
CONSOLIDATE> AND GROW
This
moment calls for us to be bold, to speak truth
to power, and to grow together as a unified
movement. Today CJA announces that it is
opening up membership to base-building
frontline organizations and we need your help
to spread the word and build a visionary bold
“WE” that is able to take risks, build power,
and win!
We are
reaching the 100 day mark of this new
Administration that has increased
militarization, enforced policing, and
expanded the persecution of our communities.
The trillion dollar budget proposed by Trump
demonstrates the Administration’s sustained
effort to dismiss the science behind climate
and kill the safety guards that our
communities have fought to keep workers,
communities, and Mother Earth from harm’s way.
Our threats are mounting by the day and the
need for a strong Climate Justice Alliance is
more important than ever. CJA frontline
communities have come together to fight the
bad and put forth solutions along with other
grassroots groups across the country. To
“build the bigger we” CJA along with
ItTakesRoots is mobilizing for the People’s
Climate March in D.C. and around the country.
We are joining with 50+ groups of Beyond the
Moment in organizing Pop ED, policy reform,
May Day mobilizing, and beyond.
SPREAD
THE WORD TO BECOME A CJA MEMBER
To
fortify a united movement for climate justice
in strong opposition to climate deniers and
false solutions, CJA will open up membership
to base-building frontline communities April
18th, 2017 and will open membership to
Alliances, Networks, and Movement Support
Organizations starting June 10th, 2017. The
truth is that the work our communities do in
the areas of Food Sovereignty, Energy
Democracy, Housing and across all the sectoral
shifts of the Just Transition is really
speaking to the people’s struggle as a
framework to restore justice and maintain
climate justice as a movement issue. But, CJA
does not only seek to “build a bigger we” we
need to build a more “strategic we” so new
members are aligned to existing membership
(your potential local partners), come from
areas where CJA may be under-represented
(Indian Country, Northwest, South, Gulf,
Midwest, rural areas) or are strong candidates
to one day become Our Power Communities that
are able to transform our economy into a
regenerative tool for climate justice.
New
membership applications will be reviewed and
approved on a first come-first serve basis
each quarter and we will limit membership-- so
make sure to have the organizations you
recommend apply soon and mention you as their
recommendation.

What
is a base-building frontline organization?
Base-building
Frontline Organizations
are groups that are building people power
among those most impacted by the extractive
economy, which is at the root of climate
change. These include environmental justice,
climate justice or community groups that are
accountable to a significant base. They may
have a formal or informal organizational
structure.
Grassroots
Organizing Sector has
the following attributes:
It is made up of community based
organizations, their networks and alliances;
It is rooted in, and accountable to
communities of color and low income
communities most directly impacted by the
issues being addressed;
It builds local power and leadership to
influence the decisions that affect their
communities; It is comprised of those working
