As people may be aware, the Society for American Archaeology ejected a journalist and whistleblower instead of enforcing their policy against sexual harassment.

There is an open letter people may be interested in signing:

Thank you for alerting us to this, and sending around, Mark. I clicked on the google doc link and see the letter and signatures, but don't see anywhere to add signature -- is there a different link to add signature or I'm missing something, sorry!

Good if many can sign, but I am a bit concerned noting anything explicitly about who signs and who doesn't. I'm not sure all of whom are on this listserv, but there are some I'm guessing who would want to sign but might not be able to because of work affiliation (like fed or depending on organizational status). It can unfortunately get trickier signing things like this if you're outside of academia. For example, I couldn't sign this with using the affiliation of one of my main employers, even though the work is done to bend the light towards justice. Just something to consider, thank you! And if I'm reading too much into the comment about noting who signs and who doesn't, then please feel free to ignore this entirely!

Thanks Mark for bringing this to our attention. Martha, what you wrote was not appropriate. I do trust Mark, and that matters to my decision, but I do not know this case and am not a member of SAA. Threatening non-signatories ignores this reality.
