Dagestan: One Month Extension to Dzhakaev's Detention

The Human Rights Center “Memorial” reported about the illegal detention of Abdurakhman Dzhakaev, resident of  Muzalaul city (Khasavyurtovsky region, Republic of Dagestan) as well about the initiation of a criminal case against him.
Let us remind that, according to the declaration of his mother  Patimat, on March 1, people in arms came to his home. As a result of a house search they discovered a pistol  in the kitchen and took Abdurakhman with them. On the same day his parents and lawyer (Sapiyat Magomedova) went to the Regional Department of Internal Affairs of Khasavyurt. However they did not manage to meet with Dzhakaev. Only on March 2, after the intervention of human rights activists and representatives of the Obdusman of the Russian Federation (RF), Magomedova succeeded in reaching his client. Dzhakaev told her that he was victim of beatings, tortures and suffocation and that police officers wanted him to sign a deposition admitting that the gun found in the kitchen belonged to him. Through his lawyer Abdurakhman initiated a procedure in the Khasavyurtovsky interdistrict investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the RF to bring to justice the officers of the Khasavyurtovsy Regional Department of Internal Affairs and the other people involved in the violence against him. (http://memo.ru/hr/hotpoints/caucas1/msg/2012/03/m279794.htm).
On March 3, a criminal case was opened against Dzhakaev under the part 1, Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the RF (illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices).
Sapyat Magomedova reported that on  April 2, a court hearing was scheduled on the Dzhakaev case. The lawyer notified in advance the Khasavyurtovsky district court about the fact, that she would not be able to attend the hearings. Despite this, the hearings were held and it was decided to extend the detention of Dzhakaev for one more month.
