On June 18, 2012 around 5 pm local resident El'dar Mamaev, born in 1982, was abducted in the town of Nal'chik of Kabardino-Balkaria (KBR). His brother Rustam Mamaev, native of KBR living in Moscow, reported about the abduction in his application to the Human Rights Centre Memorial.
According to eyewitnesses, when
Eldar was standing near the bus station on Tarchokov street, a
car approached him. People in masks got out of it. They made
El'dar sit in their car and drove off in an unknown direction.
Rustam says that the relatives tried to call El'dar but his phone was switched off. On June 19, at 1 am, the phone was turned on but all the calls were rejected. In 20 minutes the phone was turned off again.
On June 19, Mamaevs' mother Zakhida applied to UVD in Nal'chik.
From informal resources the relatives have learnt that in the evening of June 19 El'dar was in the department of Federal Secret Service in KBR but they didn't apply to law enforcement authorities beacuse were afraid of the consequences for El'dar. The relatives hoped that soon they would be informed about Eldar's detention.
Rustam writes in the application that El'dar was worried about the fact that he was shadowed. He told that cars with tinted windows used to be "on duty" near his house.
As of June 22, they don't have information about Mamaev's whereabouts. They fear that El'dar might be tortured and ask to help to find him.
