Job Overview
This position is responsible for providing Human Resources support to
employees and managers within a designated office or group of offices
primarily in the areas of Employee Relations, Performance Management,
Community Relations, Benefits, and Policy administration and
interpretation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide first line support to employees and managers on Human
Resources issues, including answering questions, researching and
resolving issues, and processing related paperwork:
Benefit Plans - Options and Enrollment
Performance Management
Learning and Development
Career Development
Company Policies & Procedures
Employee Handbook Interpretation
Resolve Employee Relations issues and ensure proper and complete
documentation:
Employee Complaints
Conflict Resolution / Mediation
Investigations
Facilitate New Hire Orientations:
Interact with GIS, Facilities, hiring manager, and the new hire to
arrange logistics for employee's first day appropriate resources
Conduct New Hire Orientations
Process all related paperwork
Manage termination process:
Conduct Exit Interviews
Process related paperwork
Respond to Unemployment Claims
Represent CA in any unemployment or related hearings
Strategize with managers to implement HR initiatives designed to
improve organizational performance.
Assist managers with and review and approve disciplinary actions and
involuntary terminations.
Ensure compliance with country specific employment regulations and
guidelines:
Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission / Affirmative Action Program
(EEOC / AAP)
Workers Compensation
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
and other non-US regulations and guidelines
Participate in and/or lead basic team projects such as regional
newsletters, community relations programs and events, meetings,
employee events, etc.
Assist in the development of HR policies in order to satisfy legal
requirements, cost containments, and work environments consistent with
CA's core values.
Promote and manage local implementation of corporate driven HR
programs and initiatives.
May assume subject matter expert role on specific HR task or
function and act as lead and representative for region on that task or
function.
Conduct presentations and facilitate training on HR related topics
at departmental meetings, town hall meetings and other forums.
Typical Role Definition
Professional Staff. An intermediate level professional Role. Some
evaluation, originality or ingenuity required to perform tasks. Knows
and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a
particular field. Knows the basic job duties. Performs work under
general supervision that is varied, and may be difficult, yet
typically involves limited responsibility. Works on problems where
analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of
factors.
Job-Specific Authority and Scope
Generally works without consulting their manager.
Independent decisions are made daily.
Examples of typical decisions without manager consultation:
Determine appropriate resolution to HR issues.
Approve FMLA requests.
Approve Org Chart change requests.
Typically has no direct reports.
Typically has no total staff.
Typically has a geographic focus of Area (multi-country or multi-
state).
Typically does not manage a budget.
Business Travel and Physical Demands
Business travel of approximately 25 percent yearly is expected for
this position.
Physical demands:
Office environment. No special physical demands required.
Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree or global equivalent in Human Resources or related
business field.
Work Experience
Typically 2 years experience in an HR Generalist role.
Skills
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have
experience handling multiple projects simultaneously, and working in
an environment which requires flexibility, innovation, superb customer
service skills, and organization. Must have experience delivering
effective presentations and training material to a variety of
audiences. Should possess an understanding of Federal, State and local
employment regulations.
Certifications
Professional Human resources (PHR) or Senior Professional Human
Resources (SPHR) certification is preferred.
