Dear all, Welcome to the 14th edition of our eBCC-Newletter and the first one for the BCC10*. After a wonderful summer we are already on the road to the BCC 2010. The finals in Vienna will take place – as last year - from July 5 to July 11, 2010. In this Newsletter we will present to you the dates of the Sub-Competitions in all BCC-countries. On www.bcchallenge.org you can find also the clip and some impressions from the BCC 2009. Since 2008, the selection procedure consists of the following steps:

Eligibility Criteria for Students The BCC is open for students who are enrolled at the universities and/or are citizens of: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. The BCC candidates need to be students in the fields of economics, law, political sciences (and related disciplines) and technical sciences from any state or private institution of higher education. They need to have excellent skills and an outstanding academic performance. They need to be proficient users of the English language (see Level C1 according to the "Common European Framework of Reference" of the Council of Europe). Knowledge of German and of other foreign languages is an asset. Students need to be under 28 years of age at the time of applying (for female applicants: the age limit is extended by 3 years per child) and have to complete their studies preferably within 1 year but within amaximum of 2 years from the moment of application.
3) Disciplines
Business Case Competition (BIZ) The Business Case Competition brings together High Potentials from the fields of business studies, management and economics. They are challenged to produce solutions for a concrete case within a few hours. This case is usually covering a business related theme relevant to the economic development in South-Eastern Europe.Solutions are presented by the students to a panel of academic experts and representatives of the business world. Previous BIZ Cases: 2009 - Erste Group: Development of innovative sales possibilities for products offered by financial service providers in Central and South-East Europe 2008 - Vienna Insurance Group: Sales and Marketing strategy for VIG in South-Eastern Europe 2007 - ERSTE Bank:Wealth@age: Promoting provisions for sustainable wealth in CEE 2006 - OMV: How is the OMV able to reach, to attract and to keep the best young professionals and High Potentials in South-Eastern Europe? 2005 - Sarajevo Graduate School of Business: Promotion of the MBA program and development of services 2004 - Bosnalijek: Environmental management and social responsibility of a pharmaceutical company 2003 - Coca-Cola: Cola light positioning at the market in Bosnia and Herzegovina The Law Moot Court is a simulation of a trial before the International Court of Justice. The students are confronted with a fictitious dispute between two states. The main aim of the LMC competition is to provide the law students with the possibility to gain in depth understandingof the International Public Law and the procedural issues before the International Court of Justice. The Law Moot Court brings together outstanding law students. The participants represent the states in the dispute through oral pleadings before a panel of judges. These pleadings are based on the application to the International Court of Justice to be prepared and submitted by the students in the form of memorials prior to the competition. The judge panels consist of three to five legal experts from universities and institutions that ensure a professional approach to the case solving and a high level of legal debate. Previous LMC Cases 2009 - The case of Industria and Agraria 2008 - The case of Banamas and Meganesia 2007 - The case of Coca Crops 2006 - The case of River Wild 2005 - Human Trafficking 2004 - Territorial Law ICT Case Competition (ICT) The ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Case Competition simulates the application of ICT in a specific business context. Participants are required to analyse the business procedures and infrastructure of the company in question and provide an integrative ICT solution. Senior level students of information and communication technology who have the opportunity to participate in the Balkan Case Challenge are challenged to produce solutions for the ICT case by putting themselves in the position of representatives of a consulting company in the field of ICT. Previous ICT Cases: 2009 - ComTrade: Design a software solution to reduce IT project development time and costs 2008 – ERSTE Bank – Developing concepts for an internet portal 2007– Solutions for product management and strategic product planning in CEE region 2006 - Tailor-made project management software for Autforce 2005 - Development of long distance learning at the Faculty for Information Technologies 2004 - High availability of online student services atthe University of Sarajevo Model European Council is an authentic simulation of the European Council which gives outstanding students in the fields of economics, law, political sciences (and related disciplines) and technical sciences the opportunity to participate actively at the simulation where they can discuss European issues. The aim of MEC is to create greater European awareness among students and better understanding of the EU bodies.
