I'm thinking of buying a bike, and dunno much about them, like the laws in
the UK, what protection do I need, etc. I can't find much help on
webpages...

As far as I am aware the protection required is a kite marked helmet. It is
amazing but you do not need to wear leathers in the UK.

Obviously you need to check what size bike you can get - this depends on
age, the type of test you have passed and if you haven't yet passed a test
you are restricted as to the size of bike you can use on the road.
