CLR TO HIRE REGIONAL ORGANIZER

Campaign for Labor Rights mobilizes grassroots support throughout the United
States for the major campaigns to end sweatshop abuses. We are looking
for a
full-time Midwest regional organizer, with an optimal starting date of
September 7, 1999. The organizer will be responsible for a six-state area:
Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The regional office
will be located in Chicago. A two-week training will take place at either
our DC office or our Eugene, OR office.

Compensation:
Beginning pay at a rate of $23,500 per year, with first review at the
end of
a three-month probationary period, and with subsequent raises at 6, 12 and
24 months.
Generous health insurance included.

Primary responsibilities:
Develop contacts - mostly via phone and email - with organizations
throughout the region.
Promote anti-sweatshop activism in the region.
Organize regional speaking tours for sweatshop workers and accompany
the tours.
Speak at conferences and workshops in the region.
Participate in national conferences and meetings in other parts of the U.S.
Remain current on sweatshop issues and other important political
developments.

Requirements:
Minimum of two years experience in grassroots organizing.
Well-grounded in global economic issues.
Strong verbal and written skills.
Computer literate.
Conscientious about organizing information in a retrievable system.
Self-starter.
Able to work irregular hours.
Licensed, insured, safe driver, with own car in reasonable operating
condition.
Able to travel 5-8 weeks per year.
[Fluency in Spanish a plus, but not a requirement.]
