I'm currently working on getting 10.6.8 (IIRC) stable on my laptop. I have
everything but WiFi and GFX working (both understandably annoyingly
un-cooperative), but haven't gotten anywhere. ATI HD 4225 gfx is a rare
mobile chipset, and non-existant discrete card, so basically impossible to
get a working driver for it. WiFi is a the only Broadcom card in the series
that isn't supported by OSX's patched .kext
On the desktop front, I probably will never install OSX natively on my
system, as there's too much of a risk in loosing years (spanning about 10
years) of personal data. I found my folder containing my 10.5.5 VM, but it
has no point of origin expept that it came from the now-defunct Demonoid.
With my successes in getting 10.6.x running on my laptop, I may have to give
another go on my desktop's VM setup now that I have VMWare 8? 9? (checked.
vmWare 9) installed and it supports OSX Server. Might even provide support
for Audio and GFX acceleration. If not, I may slap a PCI SoundBlaster into
the tower and pass it straight through to VMWare to get me proper audio.
My biggest hurdle with a native boot instead of a virtualized one is that I
can't bring myself to buy an nVidia gfx card. I had a 8800GTX at one point,
but the cap in the top corner got broken in a move and re-soldering it
didn't fix it. Newest nVidia card I have access to now is an AGP 5200, and
that's not useful anymore. I haven't had much luck with using budget ATI
cards either, so I may be putting myself into my own little prison of
uncompatibleness because of it. (But seeing as I can get an ATI HD 4770 or
HD 4850 for less than $50 on Geeks.com now, I may have to re-attempt this
aspect of the OSX Hacking world)
