It is easier, harder or about the same to get OS X running inside a VM?

I've tried - & failed - in both VMware Player & VirtualBox on my main
laptop. No joy, altho' with iBoot 3.3 it got as far as the spinning
indicator on the loading screen... & then stayed there for 20min until
I gave up.

Any comments?

I've gotten OSX 10.5.x and one 10.6.x to run on my AMD systems. The most
stable seems to be my 10.5.6 VM that runs in VMWare on my AMD Phenom II X6,
but it has some issues, mainly poor to no sound, and no graphics
acceleration.
I have no idea how it was pulled off, as I got the VM pre-compiled on the
bay of sailors with questionable morals. (also I have 10.5.x for my G4 eMac)
I've tried different distros available on VMWare and got a few booting (back
when 10.5.x was the newest) but haven't gotten any 10.6.x ones to boot
(haven't dared to try further, since I have AMD, which hasn't had much
support beyond 10.6)

I've had success with the LeoHazard 10.6.6 AMD/SSE2 legacy
distribution, and even better success with the LeoHazard 10.6.1/10.6.2
AMD legacy distribution. I've manually upgraded to 10.6.8, but it's a
little unstable. I've had problems patching the DSDT for AMD,
specifically getting the USB working, and also energy stuff. I've got
sound & accelerated video OK I think? I've been meaning to get a
Phenom II x6 CPU to upgrade my aging Athlon 64 x2, but that hasn't
quite materialized yet. If I get a Phenom CPU and get the system
stable, I'll likely migrate to this AMD as my main computer, replacing
the venerable G5 Macintosh. If I can't get the AMD stable, it's a
"new"(meaning likely used or cheap) Intel box for me soon.

I'm currently working on getting 10.6.8 (IIRC) stable on my laptop. I have
everything but WiFi and GFX working (both understandably annoyingly
un-cooperative), but haven't gotten anywhere. ATI HD 4225 gfx is a rare
mobile chipset, and non-existant discrete card, so basically impossible to
get a working driver for it. WiFi is a the only Broadcom card in the series
that isn't supported by OSX's patched .kext

On the desktop front, I probably will never install OSX natively on my
system, as there's too much of a risk in loosing years (spanning about 10
years) of personal data. I found my folder containing my 10.5.5 VM, but it
has no point of origin expept that it came from the now-defunct Demonoid.
With my successes in getting 10.6.x running on my laptop, I may have to give
another go on my desktop's VM setup now that I have VMWare 8? 9? (checked.
vmWare 9) installed and it supports OSX Server. Might even provide support
for Audio and GFX acceleration. If not, I may slap a PCI SoundBlaster into
the tower and pass it straight through to VMWare to get me proper audio.

My biggest hurdle with a native boot instead of a virtualized one is that I
can't bring myself to buy an nVidia gfx card. I had a 8800GTX at one point,
but the cap in the top corner got broken in a move and re-soldering it
didn't fix it. Newest nVidia card I have access to now is an AGP 5200, and
that's not useful anymore. I haven't had much luck with using budget ATI
cards either, so I may be putting myself into my own little prison of
uncompatibleness because of it. (But seeing as I can get an ATI HD 4770 or
HD 4850 for less than $50 on Geeks.com now, I may have to re-attempt this
aspect of the OSX Hacking world)

I'm not certain questionable morals is correct? The article linked
below on ArsTechnica cites 10 studies that imply humans are hard-wired
to be cooperative & altruistic in nature; only becoming selfish &
greedy when they start "thinking" about things. It's possible the
morality of these sailors is more aligned with true, natural, human-
nature than the artificial morality of our flawed legal system?
There's a lot of "thinking" going into making laws, and a lot of "not
thinking" with these sailors.
