Hi all,

I've read enough to know this is the group for me to join. You're all
demented! Just kidding! I have had UC (Pan Colitis also known as
Universal Ulcerative Colitis, i.e., throughout the entire colon - from
ilium to anus) for nearly 9 years, and am planning on doing HPI in the
near future in SE Asia, enlisting the aid of some spa health care
professionals, and getting lab work done here and in the US.

I'm going to try to follow the plan of Borody's clinic fairly closely,
but want to find out a bit about flexibility - on the preparation
stage especially. Homeopathic medicine has their own views of how to
cleanse the bowel, and reduce inflammation, and some of my questions
will center on this. Where I won't be flexible is in pre-HPI tests.
I'm going to have both the donor and myself tested rigorously, and
want everything documented, so, when this treatment works, I can prove
to people that it worked, and even on my especially bad case. I'll
keep this short for now. I will be writing a more in-depth description
of my problems, and what I intend to do, and where it may depart from
the established protocols. I have a number of questions that I would
also like to have help with.

My first question is: How do I find Dr. Borody's protocol? I have read
the two major articles on his website dealing with HPI and they talk
of a 5 day course. On this website, and others, word is that it is 10
days, and sometimes more. My second question is: Are anti-inflammatory
drugs part of the protocol? In those papers he mentions that his
patients were on anti-inflammatory meds, but didn't say anything about
having to be on them. Seems like they were on them when they came to
him, and he was reluctant to taper them off too abruptly.

See you soon!

Contact the Center for Digestive Diseases, and have them send it to
you.

Yes, a short intensive course of corticosteroids is a part of the
protocol, but only if you do it in Center for Digestive Diseases. It's
not a part of the home HPI protocol. But a course of strong
antibiotics is. The reasoning behind corticosteroids course is to get
any inflammation under control as much as possible to give the
bacteria a better chance of attaching to the bowel wall (inflammation
makes this much harder). Infact, if you have any bleeding at all on
admission, the CDD will not do HPI at all.

Hi,

Thanks for responding to my message. I originally intended to post it
on one of the ongoing topics, but, not realizing what I was doing,
this started a topic of its own.

I'll call the Center for Digestive Diseases about their protocol.

Thanks for the answer about steroids. I was on steroids for about a
week over 8 years ago, and would like to avoid them. I don't think
there's a way to avoid doing the preparatory regime of antibiotics vs.
a naturopathic bowel cleansing approach. I still might do both. I live
in a place in Thailand where there are a lot of places (some of them
actually good) that offer various cleansing programs - and not too
expensive.

I just ran into the concept of HPI about a month ago and want to try
it. Nothing else has ever worked. I thought I'd get the donor stool
tests done at a lab in the states that's particularly good, get the
blood tests done locally, try to cover all the pathogens listed in the
2 main papers dealing with the subject from CDD's website, then get
the actual implant with the help of one of the naturopathic spa docs
available locally.

I am planning on sticking to the plan from CDD as closely as possible,
but think there are a few minor tweaks that can be done from things
I've learned about the bowel through naturopathic and other sources,
that might make the outcome more favorable.

I hope you don't mind if I bring up my questions here.

Thanks - Buzzer
