Hi,
The reason I found out about HPI was from this friends' friend whom I
had met several years ago.
I don't know what his actual disease was called but he was very thin
and his teeth were falling out from lack
of absorbtion of what he was eating. He was down to eating only 3
foods all else gave him problems.
Now here's the funny bit, he didn't really improve that much from the
HPI until he came down with pneumonia and the hospital put him on
Penicillin antibiotics. From then on he started to get better and
better. This is about 6 months after the HPI. He now is a normal
weight and is totally well. I talked to him and he thoroughly
recommended HPI.
He didn't understand why the Penicillin was the turning point. But
its food for thought.
Maybe something in his gut was finally eradicated with the
Penicillin?

Cassie,

The ecology and environment of the GI system is poorly understood.
Antibiotics can both cause the condition of IBS and potentially cure
it.

In Fall of 2007, I had an interesting experience. Due to
circumstances beyond my control, I had to take Augmentin, a common
antibiotic (Amoxicillin + one other drug) to prevent an infection (not
GI-related). It gave me diahrrea for a week or so, but then markedly
improved my IBS. This lasted around a month, but the effect gradually
tapered off.

Ironically, I blame Amoxicillin as one of the original triggers of my
IBS many years ago.

Most anything is possible!
