Dear HPI List Members:
The current situation with HPI right now can only be described as
supremely frustrating. Let's look at some basics:
* The modern pioneer of the technique, Dr. Thomas Borody, runs a
small, understaffed clinic in Sydney, Australia. The doctor and his
staff are almost impossible to reach unless you are scheduling an
appointment. This is ok for Australian residents, but nearly hopeless
for residents of any other country. The web site for the Probiotic
Therapy Research Center (PTRC),
http://www.probiotictherapy.com.au/ is
seven years out of date, and emails sent through the site bounce.
(Note: The PTRC is an adjunct clinic to The Center for Digestive
Diseases,
http://cdd.com.au/, Dr. Borody's primary clinic, which is a
bit better maintained.)
* Despite the publication of scholarly articles on HPI, and increasing
awareness of the technique, very few medical professionals will
perform HPI, and they are not equipped to perform repeated infusions
as Dr. Borody's clinic. For example, some doctors will perform a one-
time infusion via enema or colonoscope, and that's it. Common sense
says that the likely chance of success is higher when HPI is done over
the course of one or two weeks. Whether repelled by the "ick factor",
concerned about legal liability for HPI, or just unwilling to move
medical treatment forward, most doctors will not try HPI.
* Despite advances in the diagnosis and treament of IBS, UC, etc.,
many doctors remain ignorant of, or disinterested in, HPI. An IBS
patient, who shall remain anonymous, sent letters to all of the top
faculty and researched at the University of North Carolina Center for
Functional Gastroenterological Disorders (20+ people) to inquire about
research on HPI. Of these, one responded.
Clearly, HPI needs a powerful and influential advocate in the United
States, and perhaps elsewhere. Right now it is an open secret.
Everybody knows it could help patients, but few are willing to try.
So, does anyone on this list have a few million dollars to form a
foundation?

On another note, yes, there is porn spam at the top of this list if
you read it online. I have alerted Google to the problem.
