Ø    The Washington/Martinsburg Employment Office is currently accepting applications under the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) for the 2008 year.  If you are interested or know of any students who may qualify under this program, please encourage them to apply to the announcement.

Job Title: Student Trainee (Clerical/OA)

Grades: GS-0399-01/02/03/04/05

Duty Locations: Various posts of duties are located in the Metropolitan Washington, DC & Martinsburg, WV areas. 

The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is a flexible program that provides students with exposure to government service, enhances educational experience, and offers students an opportunity to earn money and continue their education at the same time.

 

Who can apply?

Students are not required to have any specific major to participate in the STEP program.  They must be 16 years of age; currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree seeking student with half-time or more academic course load at an accredited high school, college, university, technical, or vocational school; and must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

 

Duties:

Students work with higher graded staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience.  Typically performs duties such as: assisting high level employees with special projects; maintaining files; faxing and reproducing material; receiving and distributing telephone messages and mail; maintaining office supplies; typing labels, envelopes, and simple forms; extracting or counting data from documents or reports and preparing listings; etc.   The student will also perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Selected students could start to work as early as May, 12, 2008.  Selected students will be required to be fingerprinted, undergo a tax check, and provide a school recommendation (Form 13094) if under age 18.

 

How to apply:

Individuals applying for this announcement are required to complete and submit the following REQUIRED documents:

 

1.    Form OF-612 Application for employment, or a current resume.

2.    College Transcripts/ High School Report Card or College Acceptance Letter.

3.    STEP Questionnaire

  1. Form 13094 Recommendation for Juvenile Employment with IRS
                                      
    (if under the age 18)

 

These documents may be obtained by calling (816) 292-6090 and requesting document number 105.

 

All documents are required to be submitted BEFORE the closing date for a student to be considered ELIGIBLE.  

 

Applicants will be ranked/rated based on factors such as, experience, education, grade point average (GPA) and answers to a student questionnaire. 

 

 Qualifying students will have until 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET) on the closing date of this announcement to submit the required documents above.  Failure to provide supporting documentation within the prescribed period will result in disqualification or ineligibility for this vacancy.
