Program Highlights
The 20th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing (HiPC 2013), to be held in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India, December 18 - 21, 2013, will serve as a forum for presenting current work by researchers from around the world as well as to highlight activities in Asia, in the area of high performance computing.
Keynote Speakers
● Ian Buck, General Manager, GPU Computing Software, NVIDIA, on “GPU Computing, Past, Present, and Future”
● Ivo Bolsens, Senior Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, Xilinx research laboratories (XRL), “The All Programmable SOC FPGA at the heart of programmable systems”
● Robert J. Harrison, Institute for Advanced Computational Science, Stony Brook University and Center for Scientific Computing, Brookhaven National Laboratory, “Big science, big data, big compute”
Contributed Papers
The technical program will consist of 49 contributed papers chosen from 196 submissions from all over the world. The papers will be presented in a single-track multiple session format covering important and timely topics such as performance consistency, virtualization, fault tolerance and power management for large scale HPC and Cloud infrastructures, routing, and programming support, shared memory abstractions and applications for multi-core and GPU systems.
Student Research Symposium
The conference will feature the 6th student research symposium on High Performance Computing on December 18, aimed at stimulating and fostering student research, and providing an international forum to highlight student research accomplishments. The one-day symposium will feature brief presentations by student authors on their research and a poster exhibit, and will be followed by a reception and industry-student mixer.
Workshops
As part of the conference, 2 workshops will be hosted on December 18.
● International Workshop on Cloud Computing Applications (IWCA)
● Workshop on Performance Engineering and Applications (WPEA)
Industry, Research and Users Symposium
The symposium will bring together practitioners and users including both commercial and non-commercial users of HPC to provide a forum for presenting the state-of-the-art in HPC platforms and technologies, for discussing best practices and for exchanging experiences. This two-day symposium, will be held on December 19 - 20, will feature two sessions with presentations from international experts, focusing on the following topics:
● HPC and Big Data Challenges
● HPC Challenges in CFD in India
Industry/Research Exhibits
This two-day exhibition session, to be held on December 19 - 20, will consist of exhibits and presentations from vendor companies and R&D laboratories.
Conference Registration
Conference registration includes attendance at all workshops and technical sessions and a copy of the HiPC 2013 proceedings. The early registration deadline for discounted fees is November 14, 2013. International attendees are advised to start the process for their registration and application for a travel visa as soon as possible. Visit the conference website for further details.
Information for India-based Participants
Registration at reduced rates is made possible for India-based faculty, students, and researchers through sponsorships from India based industries and organizations. Travel scholarships for India-based students are available on a merit basis to promote HPC research in India.

OVERVIEW
The Student Research Symposium (SRS) at HiPC is organized to stimulate and foster student engagement in high performance computing research, and to provide an international forum to highlight student research accomplishments in HPC. The symposium will also expose students to the latest research and best practices in the HPC community from academia and industry.
HiPC SRS 2012 featured 17 papers and 13 posters, which were accepted from 45 submissions from five countries. Besides brief presentations and poster exhibit by student authors, the one-day symposium this year will feature invited talks by leading HPC researchers/practitioners. The HiPC conference reception will provide an opportunity for students to interact with HPC researchers and practitioners (and recruiters) from academia and industry.
TOPICS
We invite submission of extended research abstracts of 5 pages for the HiPC SRS. All topics relevant to the HiPC conference are of interest to this symposium. These include, but are not limited to:

WHAT TO SUBMIT
The extended abstracts should be submitted in PDF format. The document should be at most 5 letter size (8.5in x 11in) pages in 11 pt or 12 pt fonts, single spaced, with at least one-inch margins on all sides. Please identify the names of student authors in a footnote. If some part of your submission was published by you previously, then you should cite your prior work and indicate how the current submission differs from it.
Submissions will be handled electronically through EasyChair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=srshipc13. Detailed submission instructions are available at www.hipc.org/hipc2013/studentsymposium.php. The selected extended abstracts will be published online on the conference web site and on a CD to be distributed at the conference. They will not be part of the official HiPC conference proceedings. Selection will be competitive and all submissions will be reviewed. Manuscripts will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, and significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the conference attendees.

ELIGIBILITY
The research work presented in the submission should primarily be the result of student research. Accepted papers and posters should be presented by a student author. The student author should have been a full-time student at some point in 2011. Non-student co-authors are permitted.
AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Awards for Best Poster and Best Presentation, sponsored by the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP) will be selected by a separate awards committee. We expect a total award money of Indian Rupees 50, 000. Limited scholarships in the form of travel grants to cover part or all of travel, boarding and registration are available to authors of accepted papers. Student authors of the top few submissions at the symposium will be assured of a travel scholarship.
A book containing the resumes of the students participating in the symposium will be compiled and made available to the sponsors of the HiPC 2013 conference.
