Hello - My name is Lauren Willette. I recently received my Ph.D. in Heritage Studies from Arkansas State University. I work for Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts, our state folk arts program, housed at the UofA in Fayetteville, as the Fieldwork Coordinator. I was a student of Gregory Hansen, and am lucky to be able to continue to collaborate with him often.
My interests of research: culture/history/folklore of the larger South and especially the Ozarks and Arkansas, back-to-the-land and environmental focused counterculture movements, plant knowledge/gardening/foodways/environmental theory, oral history documentation, public education, community activism.
My dissertation was over herbalist and notable wild foods expert Billy Joe Tatum. I will be giving a paper presentation on her at AFS on Friday morning at 8:30 am block. I've copied the info from the program below.
I'm looking forward to learning from and contributing to this group.
