Born to medical missionaries in China during World War II, Jackie grows up to reject her birth country because it makes her feel different. Having always known her as distant and emotionally abusive, Jackie is stunned to see her mother's loving side during their return to China in 1980. For the first time, Jackie discovers her own affinity for her birth country.
