Hi,

Apologies if you've received this already via Meetup - I'm not sure if the HLUG Meetup group overlaps the HLUG Google Group 100%.

edX are running an online course in learning how to use Linux. edX offers a vast range of ree online university level courses, backed by the big names in the world's universities (Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Australia National, Hong Kong, Notre Dame, etc).

LFS101x: Introduction to Linux went live on 1st August. The course covers a wide range of topics from graphical interfaces to using the command line, security, the Linux philosophy, networking and scripting. It is designed to take you beyond being just a casual user. The course is free and you can get a certificate for completing it. If you would like a verified university level certificate to add to our CV, the cost is US$250 (as far as I can see).

To get started with the course:

  1. Go to edX.org.
  2. Log in to edX using the email address and password you signed up with.
  3. Once you're logged in, click on the course name or the image of Tux the Linux penguin to launch the course.
  4. Read the announcement on the first page and follow the instructions.
  5. Start learning to use Linux!

The course is self-paced and should take between 40-60 hours to complete.

Regards,

Richard
