redsn0w is an iDevice jailbreaking tool for OS X and Windows. Originally called QuickPwn, but due to exploitation of the name by www.quickpwn.com, version 0.7 was renamed to redsn0w and added unlocking of supported devices.
Version 0.9.10b1 adds support for iOS 4.2.6 through 5.0.1 (though iOS 4.2.9, 4.2.10, 4.3.4, 4.3.5, and 5.0 are tethered on devices invulnerable to the 0x24000 Segment Overflow). This build of redsn0w is not capable of jailbreaking S5L8940 or newer devices.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of redsn0w to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this phone program.
redsn0w can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the operating system shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista having been tested. Windows XP is supported. It runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems with no dedicated 64-bit download provided.Filed under: redsn0w DownloadFree iPhone ToolsWe have tested redsn0w 0.9.15b3 against malware with several different programs. Wikipedia says "redsn0w is a utility to jailbreak iOS devices" and "PwnageTool is an iPhone jailbreaking application for Mac OS X that creates custom iOS firmware images" (cannot post a third link, but that one is easy to find).
Reasoning for the question: I have read on several places that an irreversible thing could be made to a iDevice (iPhone for example) that mutilates it somehow and it cannot receive updates from iTunes with stock iOS and only custom iOSes can be installed. Wikipedia says redsn0w is a jailbreak utility while PwnageTool creates custom iOS.
PwnageTool and Redsn0w are from the same developers team (dev-team) and they are using the same jailbreaking method (as of redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 and PwnageTool 4.3). IMHO both are safe, but PwnageTool gives you more power.
After Apple released iPhone OS 3.0 in June 2009, the Dev Team published redsn0w as a simple jailbreaking tool for Mac and Windows, and also updated PwnageTool primarily intended for expert users making custom firmware, and only for Mac.[47] It continues to maintain redsn0w for jailbreaking most versions of iOS 4 and iOS 5 on most devices.[48]
As of December 2011, redsn0w included the "Corona" untether by pod2g for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad (1st generation), and iPod Touch (3rd and 4th generation).[45] As of June 2012, redsn0w also includes the "Rocky Racoon" untether by pod2g for iOS 5.1.1 on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch models that support iOS 5.1.1.[63]
Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 jailbreaks iOS 4.2.1 but also provides the added ability to install baseband firmware that can be unlocked for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. For other iOS devices, redsn0w 0.9.6b5 will simply jailbreak the device but some models will be a tethered jailbreak.
If you are wondering how to use redsn0w to jailbreak and unlock, you are at the right guide. This is a two stage process, first you jailbreak your iPhone with redsn0w and update the baseband, and then you unlock the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G with ultrasn0w 1.2 unlock.
I downloaded the redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and also the IPSW and then when i was doing the Jailback and unlock My Iphone 3g (Version 4.2.1(8c148) firmware 05.15.04)
I browsed th ipsw and then did the all steps.
Hello, please could you help me?
I have an iPhone 3GS in the firmware 4.2.1. It was in the 5.12.01 baseband.
I tried to jailbreak and unlock it using redsn0w. After ir I entered in Cydia and installed ultrasn0w. After rebooting the system, my iphone keeps locked in apple logo and then after a few seconds it turns to recovery mode!
I am using Tinyumbrella but it is not working! Every time my iphone goes back to recovery mode!
hello im really stuck and would appreciate any help!, i just got this iphone 4 for christmas and its was running firmware 4.2.1 i needed to unlock it so i searched on google and found this, i jailbreaked and unlocked it and was installing something on cydia that required a reboot, i rebooted once and then on redsn0w selected right option ( boot to something) and it worked, then i did this again, but now my iphone is stuck in an apple logo/recovery mode loop, is not recognised by itunes and ive tried 1 million ways im desperate for help!! (i think my baseband is the 6.15.00) thanks!!
I jailbroke my iphone 3gs using redsn0w and was successful.
when I went to unlock it with ultrasn0w i accidentally rebooted it without using redsn0w. it has been stuck on the apple logo ever scene.
And for those who have just a white icon as cydia on their screen just open redsn0w click on just boot and after the phone reboots you should have the normal cydia icon on your screen!
Good luck, i just got mine working after two days of recovery mode!!!
i have done the redsn0w 0.9.6b5 jailbreak, bb update to 6.15.00 and installed ultrasn0w 1.2 tooo on iphone3gs 4.1 and rebooted the phone.but it doesnt make much difference, but for the thing that my phone is jailbroken,i get a message saying restricted network : your selected cellular network is restricted.you can choose a different network in settings pls help (i tryed and it woks with other cellular company sims so its like half cracked)
My 3G/16Gb was running with IOS4.0.1, I jailbroken the phone (to IOS4.2.1) with redsn0w 0.9.6b5 without update to 4.2.1 from iTune. Now the phone is unlocked, but the phone works very odd, when open apps, the display looks like jumping up and down. Has anyone ran into the same issue and found a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unlike cryptic and non-informative iTunes Error Codes, jail-breaking utility redsn0w do offer useful information to diagnose possible issues. A common error encountered with redsn0w is "Usb connection problem", but despite the clear message and obvious solution to fix USB connection between the device and computer there could be other reasons for the error.
While the very first thing you need to check when encountering this error would be a good working cable and a properly functional USB port, this error can also be caused because of newer versions of redsn0w not compatible with Apple iPhone 3G. For me using older "redsn0w_win_0.9.12b1" fixed the issue, so go ahead and download redsn0w 0.9.12b1 from the links posted below if using iPhone 3G and facing this error.
Redsn0w by DevTeam allows you to jailbreak your iPhone 4 device, to get complete control over it (see why you should jailbreak here). Currently, redsn0w version 0.9.6b5 allows you to perform a tethered jailbreak to your device that has already been upgraded to firmware 4.2.1, which means you need to use redsn0w every time you boot the device, otherwise all your jailbreak data gets wiped. However, it will NOT unlock the device, enabling it to be used with different GSM carriers worldwide.
With iOS6.1.2 now available the window to upgrade jailbroken devices to iOS 6.1 is now closed, iOS 6.1.2 is currently not jailbreakable with redsn0w (but it is with evasion!)- this post will be updated when the next version of redsn0w is released to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2
The process of getting this job done requires a number of steps (but are easily done), which are downloading the official iOS 6 firmware from Apple, upgrading iTunes to the latest version, getting the latest redsn0w software from the dev team. If you are new to this it can well be intimidating with loads of jargon but take your time and go through the information below. This process has been tested and successfully installed/Jailbroken on a iPhone 3GS old boot rom device that has been previously jailbroken.
I should mention also that all this software is available FREE and without charge. There is no charge for redsn0w or ultrasn0w. I have never paid for any jailbreaking software in the past few years, and I have jailbroken (at different times) an original iPhone, an iPhone 3GS, an iPhone4, and an iPad1.
