Would it be possible to have the embedded video controlled
programmatically to start playback a give step (position) in the
video? Could this be done by using a FlashVars parameter?

The page that would display the embedded video could use something
like this to start the video at step 3:
<object ... <embed src="http://www.howcast.com/flash/
howcast_player.swf?file=12345" FlashVars="position=3" ...</object>

Use Case 1:
1) someone is reading my blog on cooking or fixing something
2) the first couple of steps i have detailed are simple enough that
they skip through the video instructions
3) the user clicks the button on my blog to start playback at step 3
4) the video starts playing at step 3 and they watch from step 3 till
the end

Use Case 2:
1) the site owner has several steps that the user can watch in the
video which is displayed on the page
2) the site has several sections and a links to each step in the video
3) the user clicks on the link that is most relevant to their needs
4) the video starts playback at the correct section and continues to
the end

Thanks for your time!

Hi Nick,

Thanks so much for the suggestion and use cases (very helpful)! This
is feasible, however, we ran into some problems doing this a while
back that were related to our CDN not liking some of the FLV header
requests that we were making. We can't commit to a timeline right now,
but we'll definitely look into this more and keep you posted.

Thanks,
Russ
