This past weekend, I decided to take a little break from working on my case and worked on the KEH FT with the plan to connect the Grovers of Archer with the ancestors of Laurel. I remember Mom and Steve Grover talking about their common ancestors and I decided to document that connection. I was assuming it was with the Grover line since I knew Grammie's grandmother was Lucetta Grover. This is probably a direct connection, but I was drawn to investigate another connection. I noticed that Thomas Grover, who was a prominent LDS pioneer ancestor of the Grovers in Archer. The wife they descended from was Caroline Eliza Nickerson. I became courious about her connection so I began to work both ends of this line and found that we are indeed related through the Nickersons.

This is Stephen E. Grover's line: (9) Elisha Freeman Grover and Emma Maria Erickson, (8) Marshall Hubbard Grover and Isabella Orr, (7) Caroline Eliza Nickerson and Thomas Grover, (6) Freeman Nickerson and Huldah Chapman, (5) Eleazer Nickerson and Thankful Chase, (4) Eleazer Nickerson and Sarah Bearse, (3) John E Nickerson and Elizabeth Baker, (2) Nicholas Nickerson and Mary Derby, (1) Willaim Nickerson and Anne Busby.

This is the line of Laurel Maud Small: (11) Howard Edwin Small and Janet Beatrice Giberson, (10) Maud Faustenia Hapworth and William Lois Small (9) Henrietta Godfrey Nickerson and Horatio Southgate Hapworth, (8) Isaiah Nickerson and Mary Ann Orcutt, (7) Isaiah Nickerson and Lydia Godfrey, (6) Thomas Nickerson and Ruth Hinckley, (5) Thomas Nickerson and Dorcas Sparrow, (4) Thomas Nickerson and Lydia Covell, (3) Thomas Nickerson and Mary Bangs, (2) William Nickerson and Mercy Williams, (1) William Nickerson and Anne Busby.

William Nickerson and Anne Busby, our common ancestors, were also our immigrant ancestors. Therefore, Laurel and Steve were 7th cousins twice removed. For those of you who had Grovers as school chums, you can use this to figure out your relationship with them. Also remember that the Wilcoxes, Orrs, etc., married Grovers. I am definately finding lots of connections with Kenneth E. Hacking's side of the family with most of our neighbors in Archer, but it is kind of neat to find connections with Laurel and Bessie Small too.

As I was looking for documentation for the Nickerson line, I also came upon the Nickerson Family Association web site www.nickersonassoc.org. I had already seen it before and thought I would like to join at some point so I could access more of their online resources, but I guess that point has come now. They have the first 7 generations documented in four volumes as well as an online database. They are working on the 8th generation for volume V. When joining they ask for your line of the family. I would like to share as much as I can and will ask your help in gathering more to put in their database as well as our own.

"There are four published volumes of The Nickerson Family: The Descendants of William Nickerson (1604-1689) First Settler of Chatham, Massachusetts covering seven generations beginning with William Nickerson and Anne Busby. Part V of this genealogy, which covers eighth-generation descendants, is once again an active project."
