Trying to find the documentation to prove which Mary Ann Orcutt is our
ancestor.

Mary Ann Orcutt is the maternal grandmother of Maud Faustinia Hapworth
and mother of Henrietta Godfrey Nickerson. However, there is some
confusion about who the parents are. When I have been making
connections with other relatives, they had told me they had different
parents than I had recorded for Mary Ann Orcutt. Today, I found some
information that explains this confussion. Below are some data and
notes from different resources I found on line. I am looking for some
original records that will give first hand sources. On Ancestry, I
have only found 3 census records: 1850, 1860, and 1870.

1850 United States Federal Census > Maine > Penobscot > Brewer
Isaiah Nickerson (49) male, farmer, Maine
Mary A. Nickerson (37 or 39) female, Maine
James H. Nickerson (22) male, Maine
John W. Nickerson (20) male, Maine
Isaiah W. Nickerson (19) male, Maine
Samuel E Nickerson (11) male, Maine
Charles D Nickerson (8) male, Maine
Henriette G Nickerson (6) female, Maine
Horace N Nickerson (1) male, Maine

Eric, do you have a copy of the will you mention in your notes, or do
you know where to find a copy? The information on New Family search is
confused so I will try to fix that in the next few weeks.

The record I had from what I gathered from Mom's records (Laurel Maud
Small Hacking).

Nickerson /Gloria (Nickerson) Card's papers - Amherst, Maine Her
Settlement and People 1790-1975 by Constance Hanscom Jellison (p. 76
and p. 92)
NOTE: From a letter written to my mother by Gloria Nickerson Card
- ...his first wife was Mary Ann Orcutt, daughter of Samuel and Eunice
Fessenden Orcutt. They had six children, one of whom was Samuel
Emerson who married Clara Jane Silsby. Isaiah's second wife was also
named Mary Ann Orcutt, daughter of Seth and Anna Fletcher Orcutt. They
had three more children. I can remember my mother saying how confusing
that was - he married two different women with the same name.

Dorris Dexter Nickerson gives her parents as Samuel Orcutt and Eunice
Fessenden on the family sheet for Isaiah Nickerson Jr. I think Dorris
is wrong. The Descendants of Samuel & Eunice (Fessenden) Orcutt don't
list any child named Mary Ann. Jellison on page 76 gives Jane Hardison
(1785-1865) as the wife of Emerson Orcutt. On page 94 under Orcutt-
Rodick Jellison again gives Emerson as the husband of Jane so I
believe this is right.

NOTE: The following from a letter from Aunt Lucy (Watts) Rivers to
Hilda (Nickerson) Knapp:
(5-20-73) (Isaiah Sr.?) He is the Nickerson's. They originated from
Holden. Your great great grandfather is buried in Holden on a cemetery
at Hart's corner near one of the entrances Clive isn't sure of his
given name. His family was; Isaiah, Charles, Sam and James. Daughter
Harriet.

NOTE: Isaiah's first wife died on 22 March 1843. He couldn't have
spent much time mourning her as Henrietta Godfrey Nickerson was born
24 April 1844, one year, one month and two days after Isaiah's first
wife's death. This means that Mary Ann Oructt II got pregnant in
August - five months after her first cousin died!

From a letter written to my mother by Gloria Nickerson Card - ...his
