Although sparsely attended, Saturday’s Members Only Star
Party saw plenty of action.
A final forecast that predicted partly cloudy weather proved
to be inaccurate as skies were cloudy throughout the evening. I was joined by a new member who wished to
see our facilities and another who planned to meet someone to exchange a book.
Unfortunately, we found Marriottsville Road closed due to an
automobile accident. When I finally arrived at our observing site, I discovered
the parking lot filled with several emergency vehicles. These vehicles were coming and going throughout the evening all culminating
with a medivac helicopter landing on the fields just behind the observatory building.
Once it was safe to venture back onto the parking lot, the
three of us adjourned at 8:45pm. I left
the front gate open as requested by park personnel.
