Hi all,

By my count, there were 42 HAL impromptu star parties this year!   Three others were announced but had to be canceled.  I attended 31 of them, including the 17 that I hosted.

The busiest observing month was October, with 7 impromptus along with very successful public and members star parties.  The slowest month was September, with only one impromptu and a cloudy night for the members star party.

The impromptus on 1/1, 5/17, 6/1 and 10/27 were held on nights that turned out to be much cloudier and/or smokier than anticipated, and the one on 1/29 was plagued by high winds.  As far as I can recall, the rest of them all featured fine observing conditions.  That leaves over 40 successful and fun observing nights when the scheduled star parties are included in the count, which made it a great year!

Here's to many more great nights of observing in 2026,

Ernie

Oops, I was accidentally counting the header row in my spreadsheet of impromptus, so it was actually 41 impromptus last year.

Oops, 42 is actually correct because the spreadsheet doesn't have an entry for the impromptu of January 1st, as it was originally created to track impromptus held since I became a keyholder on 1/22.  I regret the errors and apologize for spamming the group about the errors!
