Greetings MERAL Presidents, ALCors, editors, officers and others,

Below is an invitation to the Delaware Astronomical Society Book Club meeting on November 20th. Feel free to share this invitation with your club members.

I attend the book club meetings as often as possible. I try to read the book for the meeting, but even if I have not had time to read the book the meetings are always enjoyable and informative.

David H. Levy, the renowned astronomer and author, will join the meeting. David knew Peltier in his later life and contributed a foreword to the 1999 edition of the book.

Clear skies,

Don Knabb

Harvard astronomer and co-founder of the Astronomical League, Dr. Harlow Shapley, described Leslie Peltier as "world's greatest non-professional astronomer.

Discovered first comet on November 13, 1925, during his lifetime Leslie discovered 11 more comets, two novae, and contributed over 132,000 observations to the AAVSO. From the age of 18 until his death at 80 Leslie Peltier never missed sending in a monthly report to the AAVSO (fellow AAVSO observer Carolyn Hurless filled out and sent in his final report containing the observations he had made during the month he died).

The Astronomical League created the annual Leslie C. Peltier Award in 1980 to recognize an amateur astronomer who contributed to astronomy observations of lasting significance.
