Hello- I also belong to the National Capital Astronomers. I received
this today. It is about the lunar occultation of the Pleiades early
tonight, and of some asteroidal occultations in the days ahead.

I am sure Mr. Dunham would love to get some accurate timings if you are
so inclined.

Please forgive the terrible formatting. I don't know how to improve it
while posting to the googlegroups list.

Details with many links are on the recently updated (thanks, Steve
Conard) mid-Atlantic occultations page at
http://iota.jhuapl.edu/exped.htm <http://iota.jhuapl.edu/exped.htm> .
Below is a list of the Pleiades occultations for the Washington, DC
region; times will be earlier farther west, with predictions on
Robinson’s lunar page, link given in the Web site. Use fixed space font
for the columns to line up properly. Note that there are still many
possible close doubles awaiting confirmation or refutal. Note that you
need to add 5h to EST to obtain U.T. It looks like it will be very
clear, but cold, for the passage across the mid-Atlantic, but rather
cloudy in most other parts of N. America where the occultations occur
after nautical twilight.

Notice that 3.6-mag. Atlas (= ZC 560) is not in the list because it is
not occulted in Washington, DC, with its southern limit passing only
about 20 miles to the north. From that path, which passes over or near
Ashburn, VA; n. Rockville, Fulton, n. Savage, n. BWI airport, and
Sparrows Point, MD; and s. Vineland and far south Beach Haven, NJ. The
predicted profile, a Google Earth file, and other details are on
the Web
site. Winter conditions might make travel difficult, but some might
live
in the wide path. Also there is a link to analysis of our observations
of a graze of Spica that we recorded last November from Texas.

Also on the Web site is a map of the brighter asteroidal occultations
across the mid-Atlantic region through early February. That map is
attached, and a list of those events is below. Much more is on the
Web site.
