HAL Public Star Party Saturday 25 July

All - Come join us this coming Saturday (25 July), beginning at sunset, for our monthly public star party at Alpha Ridge Park.  Our 2026 star parties have each attracted close to 200 enthusiastic visitors.  Our public star parties are held clouds or clear.  Only severe summer thunderstorms stop us.  The long range forecast looks promising.

Notable times on the 25th: 
Sunset 8:25
Venus set 10:27
The waxing gibbous moon will be with us all evening.

HALO will be open with Krystal Rolon at the helm, and I'm confident Arjun and friends will have tables and activities set up.

Tell your friends and share our website - www.howardastro.org.  I can't think of a better family activity, especially one that's free, on a warm Maryland summer evening.  Touring the Solar System Walk is a good time filler waiting until it's dark enough for observing.

Start your clear sky dances early this week.

All - I don’t want to jinx the weather gods, but the weather is looking promising for HAL’s monthly public star party tomorrow evening beginning at sunset (8:30pm). We expect a large summer crowd.

With such a late sunset, strolling the Solar System Walk while waiting for it to get dark is a fun family activity.

Last month, we had over 30 members’ scopes set up. Hope to see many of those same scopes tomorrow.

For Sale: Complete alt/az scope setup. Includes 4" Skywatcher achromat refractor telescope, dovetail bar, 1.25 diagonal, Vixen Porta alt/az mount, and tripod with 2" steel-tubed legs, which are extendable. Add an eyepiece and you're off and running. Price is $200. 

Perfect starter scope. Price is very low, but the scope and setup are cosmetically challenged. Scroll to the bottom to see the attached pictures. If interested, check it out in person at Saturday's star party at Alpha Ridge. It'll be there ready to go to it's new home.

I am planning to get to Alpha Ridge around 4:30 to 5:00 to do solar observing and possibly imaging. Need to get out before the Sun dips below the tree line. 

Please join me if you have interest and can make it out.
