Clarification on Venus Occultation

Hi everyone,

 

There was a discrepancy in the Shallow Skies slide this evening talking about the upcoming occultation of Venus by the Moon. The event will occur on the afternoon of June 17^th (this coming Wednesday). The disappearance, as listed on the Lunar Occultations website (http://lunar-occultations.com/iota/bstar/0617venus.htm), is for 3:49 p.m., but in using planetarium software that may be when the last bit of the planet is covered up. I’d suggest starting your observing at 3:30 p.m. to ensure you do not miss it. Same thing for the re-emergence slated for 5:11 p.m., begin looking for Venus to pop out above M. Crisium a few minutes before that.
