Hi all,
Just got the following email from a coworker:

Hello Fellow OT friends,

I have a former PEP student who just contacted me. Parents are looking for adult OT support in the Gaithersburg area. Do you know of anyone?

Adriana was a 22ish-week preemie. I still remember her and her family because they were so lovely! ❤️

Information from her mother:

Adriana is currently 31 years old. (!!How did I work with this student in PEP; I am the same age. 😉)  She is an only child. Her parents are in their 70s.

She has an ASD diagnosis as well as a fibromyalgia diagnosis. She receives DDA services under the Community Pathways Waiver and she (with parents help) self-directs her services. Adriana's goal is to be as independent as possible after her parents are gone.

She refuses to consider living in a group home. If she can't stay in her family house in Gaithersburg (her first choice because she has never lived anywhere else), she wants her own apartment in a quiet neighborhood.

Goals for her include independent living skills like meal preparation, self-care, and the like. But there are so many skills that seem beyond her reach due to weakness and lack of dexterity in her hands and fingers (for example, using a knife or a pair of scissors, trimming her nails, using a can opener, buttoning and unbuttoning clothing).

Parents have been contemplating having her work with an occupational therapist again--not on sensory integration, though that remains an issue, but on more traditional fine motor skills and strength.

Can you recommend a therapist or how parents might go about finding someone who could both evaluate her needs in this area and then work with her to develop her strength and dexterity.

Anyone interested? LMK if so.
