Good Day Wiebke,

Could you please split the following in your report:

·         Mikon New Farm & Sappi

·         Mankele & Sappi.

Currently I cannot see if the snares found is on Sappi’s farm or my neighbours.  If snares are found on Sappi’s property we also send our own security to monitor the area and see if we cannot catch the culprits.  We have been successful in catching people on three different occasions and would like to sharpen up on this.  Also I have requested before that if snares are found that you just send a sms so that we can be faster of the mark to catch these criminals.  A month later does not help much.

Regards

Pierre Smit

Good to hear Pierre!  What do you do when you catch them?  Call the police?

Dee,

Sadly the police do not even arrest the perpetrators in Lydenburg even if you take them to the police station.  The department of environmental affairs do fine them but only sporadically and if you have caught the guys red handed.  If they are working for one of our contractors we bann them from ever working on any Sappi property again.

Thanks Pierre

I was wondering.  And glad to see you have some way of being effective.  Maybe you should approach the Ngodwana Police if you want action from the police as well?  Captain Pieter Smit promised to help us this side – he may be worth talking to.

Regards
