Mr.G.Balachandhran, a member of Indian Administrative Service, as the District Chief Administrator, led a program on Technology Mission on Water in Midnapore District, the largest agricultural district of India. Under his stewardship, Midnapore stood no.1 in the whole of India in assuring portable drinking water to the 8.4 million population of the District in 1986-87.
His contribution to propagation of the literary values of Tamil and the ancient culture of the Tamils is exemplary. He has been President of the prestigious Delhi Tamil Sangam in 2004-05; honorary President for Life of Kolkata Tamil Manram; has given lectures in USA, UK, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia apart from various cities within India on Tamil culture and language.
He is an advisor to Tamil Chair Inc, US.
Has contributed $50,200 towards establishment of Harvard Tamil Chair.
An able administrator who was additional Cabinet Secretary to the Provincial Govt of West Bengal, India and a passionate lover of Tamil, Mr.Balachandhran continues his keen interest in Tamil by contributing to efforts in pursuing establishment of Tamil Chair in Oxford University and Toronto.
