Tamils Against Genocide Urges U.S. Indictment of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka

Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) wrote to new U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to indict Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka for genocide, war crimes and torture against Tamils in Sri Lanka. Rajapaksa is a U.S. citizen and Fonseka holds a green card, which give them standing to be indicted in a U.S. court. TAG is seeking donations in pursuing this cause.
(PRWEB) February 13, 2009 -- Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) urged U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to initiate a grand jury investigation towards filing a federal criminal case, indicting Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka on charges of genocide, war crimes, and torture. TAG submitted a model indictment supported by 1,000 pages of evidence sustaining these charges.
Rajapaksa, brother of the Sri Lankan President, is the Sri Lankan Defense Secretary. Fonseka is the commander of the Sri Lankan army. They hold respectively U.S. citizenship and a U.S. green card, which are expected to make them indictable in the U.S. The applicable laws are the Genocide Accountability Act of 2007 (GAA), the War Crimes Act, and prohibition of torture.
Bruce Fein, a former deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration who represents TAG, drafted the model indictment. Fein says that the thousand pages of evidence "amply satisfies the Department's threshold for commencing a criminal investigation."

TAG, a non-profit organization, is looking for financial assistance in bringing this indictment. It has printed copies of the three-volume, thousand-page collection of evidence which it will send as a token of appreciation to supporters who donate $2000 or more. TAG will send an 820 page summary to $500 donors and a 200 page summary to $50 donors.
TAG officials state that "supporters of this great effort, either Tamils or non-Tamils, are urged to donate whatever amount they choose, according to their commitment and means." The officials note that donations can be made through the following link.
