Remember the next brevets are Saturday week starting at 7:30 at La
Quinta in Brookshire.

Registration from 6:45 til 7:15 in the lobby of the hotel.

There are two routes - 200K and 300K. The routes can be seen on the
web site: 2010 Brevet Schedule.

Both routes go through Columbus with the 200K going on to Fayetteville
and the 300K going to Hallettsville and Flatonia.

I plan to drive the routes this weekend - since it will be waaaay too
cold for me to be on a bike. I'll report back on the road conditions
and will alert all the rabid vicious dogs along the way that some
juicy riders will be invading their territory.

Let me know if you plan to ride.

Ken.

It's not going to be any colder this Sat than Jan 2 when you figure in wind chill and Sunshine. Don't let the media bs you.

I'll do the 200K.
Is this route any flatter or hillier than the Jan 2 ride to
Independence?
Thanks.

Ken,
I've been trying to gain access to a perm route for 2 weeks or more and here it is less than 24 hrs before my planned start and all I have from the organizer is excuses why they can't follow through on their promises to provide me with what I need to do the perm. Is there another way around this process to gain access to that route?

Ken,

I'll be traveling next week, so I won't have time to prepare or ride
either the 200K or 300K. Will shoot for the 400K on Feb 6.

Daniel, Bob, it's our list so you decide, but I for one would sure like to
see it changed so that a "Reply" only replies to the person that sent the
post, and a "Reply to all" replies to the list and to the original poster.
One of my new year's resolutions is to spend less time in front of the
computer reading/deleting emails that are not intended for me or should have
been sent offline. Just a friendly suggestion, DD

The choice is Reply, or Reply to author, nothing difficult about that.
And it's not as if this is a highly used site anyway. Frankly, I like
to read chit chat between members.

I do not have a "Reply to Author", when I hit reply, it goes to the entire
list, I could use help. To each his own, I do not have the time for the
personal chit chat. I like to know about the rides, but I can unsubscribe,
and get the info from the website. DD

OK, Mark, you got me with that one. Sorry about the phrasing of my
question. I'm beginning to see HR is filled with semi-witty folks
(just the kind I like). Perhaps you meant there are more flats AND
bigger hills?

As a new rider who finished Jan 2 about 9 minutes before sunset, I'd
like some help with planning my ride regarding being slowed by hills.
So, can anyone offer info about the Jan 16 terrain for the 200K versus
the Jan 2 terrain? I'd expect similar hills, but since I've never
biked that area, I'm just guessing. Guess I'll know for sure by the
time I get to Fayetteville.

I'm still working on my lighting investment decision for longer rides,
so I have to be careful on these short winter days with my be-seen
headlight.
Thanks,
David

The Fayetteville route is a little flatter than the Independence route
(~2400' vs. ~4000'), but it's also 2-3 miles longer. The hills are
mostly between Columbus and Fayetteville.
