Today's seed collecting trip to Deer Park Prairie is CANCELLED due to inclement weather and RESCHEDULED to Sunday, 12/29/24, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Essentially no rain is predicted for Sunday and a dry morning will allow the seeds to dry also. For more information and to sign up go to https://bit.ly/24seedrsvp . (Note: use the lower case letters as shown.)

I am hoping that the Symphyotrichum pratense which were in bloom the last time we were there will not drop most of its seeds in today's storm.

See Richard Solberg's email below on how to record your time.

Hope to see you on Sunday,

Lan

All are welcome; no experience necessary
Seed collecting is a leisurely way to enjoy the prairie and learn about prairie grasses. Enjoy some outdoor fun while gathering seeds ripe for collecting. We work to support numerous organizations in the region. Make an impact and visit prairies often not open to the public.

Dear Lan,

If you would like to get away from the holiday hustle and bustle, come and enjoy a few hours in nature by seed collecting with us on Friday, December 20 at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (HANC) plus two others listed below. Exact locations and other information are available at the google form sign up link: https://bit.ly/24seedrsvp .(Note: Please use the lower case letters as shown.) Note: we will be able to collect the not very common Pan American Balsamscale (Elionurus tripsacoides) grass seeds at the meadows at HANC.

Also, don't forget to register (at this link) for the joint Coastal Prairie Conservancy (CPC) and Houston - Native Prairies Association of Texas (HNPAT) Seed Cleaning, Packing, Pizza Party on January 22, 2025.

  • Friday, December 20, 2024 9:00 am - 11:30 am at the meadows at Houston Arboretum and Nature Center (location & parking). Meet in front of the visitor's center.
  • Saturday, December 28, 2024 9:00 am - noon to the Deer Park Prairie, 1222 E. Purdue Lane, Deer Park, TX 77536
